Turkey has demanded the arrest and extradition of Turkish mafia leader Sedat Bakr, who took refuge in the UAE and accused senior officials in President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government of committing various crimes.
The Turkish “Anadolu” agency reported that the Turkish Ministry of Justice has asked the UAE to “temporarily arrest Sedat Bekir with the aim of extradition to Turkey”.
In May 2021, 49-year-old Bekir angered Turkey by posting carefully edited videos on YouTube accusing senior officials and members of their families of rape, murder and drug trafficking.
