Amnesty International Condemns Reciprocal Attacks Between Israel and Palestinian Armed Groups
Amnesty International has condemned the reciprocal attacks between Israel and Palestinian armed groups in the Gaza Strip in May last year. The organization has stated that these attacks amounted to “war crimes”.
The Casualties of the Escalation
The escalation resulted in the deaths of 34 Palestinians, including six military leaders, fighters from various Palestinian armed groups, as well as civilians, including children. A woman was also killed on the Israeli side.
Forms of Collective Punishment
Amnesty International has stated that there were forms of collective punishment of the civilian population that took place during the attacks.
Disproportionate Airstrikes
The organization’s statement confirmed that “Israel carried out disproportionate airstrikes that killed and injured Palestinian civilians, including children.”
Investigations into Israeli Airstrikes
Amnesty International has also stated that it is investigating nine Israeli airstrikes that killed civilians and damaged and destroyed homes in the Gaza Strip. However, the Israeli army did not respond to Agence France-Presse’s request for comment on the international organization’s statement.
