The US State Department confirmed that Washington is pursuing a diplomatic path of reciprocal return to the nuclear deal with Iran. State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a press statement that reciprocal return of the Iran nuclear deal is in the interests of the United States. He also stressed that diplomacy is the best option to contain Iran’s nuclear program. He added that the US stressed that Iran’s uranium enrichment should not exceed 4%. He also demanded the lifting of any Iranian restrictions on international inspectors. This came after the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that it had received a US response to its comments on the nuclear deal in response to the European proposal. Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that Tehran had received the US government’s response through the European coordinator and that his country was studying it to inform the European coordinator of the results once it had been reviewed. Notably, earlier this month, the European Union presented Tehran with the so-called “final” text of the expected new agreement, which, in turn, responded to it with comments. The union said that Tehran had asked for some amendments to the proposal, which was not disclosed and which was made after intermittent and indirect negotiations with Washington for 16 months.
