Today, Thursday, the leader of the Sadrist movement in Iraq, Muqtada al-Sadr, announced the freezing of all his armed formations, including Saraya al-Salam, in all provinces except Salah al-Din.
Al-Sadr Minister Salih Muhammad al-Iraqi quoted Muqtada al-Sadr as saying: “We announce a freeze on all armed groups, if any, including (Peace Brigades), and a ban on the use of weapons in all provinces except Salah al-Sadr. Dean (Samarra and its environs) or by directives and orders of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Present”.
The Sadrist leader said in a statement today that the commander of the Iraqi military should “deter” Asaib Ahl al-Haq and his ilk, warning against taking “other measures later” if they are not implemented.
He added that the decision to freeze was made in order to “prevent unrest in the province of Basra.”
