The Al-Ittihad club filed an official protest with the Basketball Association regarding the match between the club’s basketball team and its counterpart Al-Nasr, which took place yesterday at the opening of the second round of the Golden Square (Elite Championship), which takes place in the hall of the Ministry sports in Riyadh.
Al-Ittihad officials confirmed that the referee of that match made a technical error by ending the match 7 seconds before the end of the official time.
For his part, basketball supervisor captain Ghassan Yanbuavi stated that what happened in the winning game was a legal error, requiring the match to be replayed in accordance with International Basketball Federation rules.
Al-Yanbawi urged Basketball Association officials to look at this protest from a legal perspective and give every right their right, expressing his satisfaction with what the players presented in that match and the tournament as a whole.
Al-Nasr led the first round of the championship, which ended last week in Medina with six points, while Al-Ittihad came in second with the same balance of points, but with a fixed point difference.
Yesterday, Saturday, Al-Ittihad and Al-Nasr put on an exciting matchup in the first round of the second round which was extended into extra time before the referee ended it 93/91 in favor of Al-Nasr.
