He won the Egyptian Football League title for the second consecutive season, the first time since 2004 under his experienced Portuguese coach Jusualdo Ferreira before finishing the competition with three rounds.
This is the fourth time in Zamalek’s history that he won the title twice in a row after 1964-1965, 1992-1993 and 2003-2004, adding to his victory in the last cup edition the fourteenth league title at the expense of his rival Al-Ahly 2-1 last July of the year.
Zamalek has defied harsh conditions on the road to retaining his title, including FIFA stripping him of the right to include any player for two transfer periods (during the 2021-2022 season), the departure of some of his stars last season such as scorer Mostafa Mohamed and Tunisian midfielder Fergiani Sassi, and then the transfer of others until the end of the current season, such as Mustafa Fathi, Tariq Hamed, Muhammad Abu Jabal and the Moroccans Ashraf Ben Sharqi and Muhammad Onajem, as well as the changes that hit the technical staff after the departure of the French champion Patrice Carteron in the latest edition after deteriorating his local and continental results.
Zamalek will face off against Al-Hilal on September 9 at the official opening of the Lusail Stadium, which will host the World Cup final in Qatar on December 18.
