His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and President of the Association of International Federations (GAISF) Ivo Virani yesterday signed a contract to host the 2023 World Martial Arts Games in Riyadh. the presence of His Highness Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, Vice President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Vice President of the Association of International Federations Stephen Fox at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex in Riyadh.
His Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince – may God preserve them – for the unlimited support enjoyed by the sports sector, and as a result, the hosts on regional and global levels, which demonstrated the effectiveness of the organization and professionalism. His Highness noted that the event is a continuation of the global hosting that has made the Kingdom a global hub for major sporting events in order to achieve the objectives of the Kingdom’s 2030 Strategy and promote a vibrant society with a diversified and prosperous economy. The Kingdom also has the infrastructure ready to organize this event which includes 15 martial arts games. We are all happy to host many world champions in these games.
For his part, the President of the World Association of International Federations confirmed that the event is part of a memorandum of understanding between the Association and the International Olympic Committee, which indicates that the Kingdom will not only organize a sporting event, but also organize a cultural event, since the history of fighting games goes back thousands of years , saying, “Kingdom is an option. Perfect for hosting the event, especially after the global pandemic, there will be workshops presented by martial artists, educational conferences and the first global martial arts gala featuring 15 martial arts legends over the course.”
It is noteworthy that the Kingdom won the hosting session during the 24th General Assembly of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, which was held in May 2021 in taekwondo, wrestling, wushu and fencing.
