Dutch power Ajax Amsterdam will pay compensation worth 7.85 million euros ($ 8.9 million) a former player by Abdelhak Nouri familyil club confirmed Monday.
Midfielder Nouri suffered brain damage as a result of a heart attack on the step in 2017.
He had made his senior debut in 2016-17 but the cardiac arrest in a pre-season match against Werder Bremen in Austria prematurely ended his playing career.
Despite being revived on field and brought urgently in hospital, Nouri suffered severe and permanent brain damage. Ajax admitted in following that medical treatment in acute phase on the field was not adequate and responsibility was recognized for the consequences.
Ajax said they had reached an agreement with by Nouri family and that the proceedings before an Arbitration Board had been closed in as for result of friendly settlement.
“We all realize that suffering for Abdelhak and his loved ones do not over. It remains a very sad situation, here how we are also in touch here at Ajax, “said Ajax general manager Edwin van der Sar in a declaration.
“We really appreciate the way the family he take cares of of Abdelhak day and night with A lot of love and attention. When I visit, I am always welcome with open arms since family.
“That also applies to the other Ajax colleagues and we appreciate it enormously. “
Ajax, who continued to pay Nouri after the accident, formally canceled his contract in March 2020.
