Mexican club Pumas Onam announced the termination of the contract of Brazilian veteran Dani Alves on the basis of his temporary detention after he was accused of raping a girl in a Barcelona nightclub last December. Barcelona decided to temporarily put him in jail without the right to post bail.
The president of the Mexican club stated that following this decision, the club reiterates its commitment not to allow any action by any member of our organization, whoever they may be, that undermines the spirit and value of the club.
At a press conference, he added: “The National Collegiate Club is an institution that promotes respect, integrity, dignity and professional conduct for players on and off the field.”
Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported that Dani Alves will remain in preventive detention without the right to post bail, a Barcelona judge ruled on Friday.
Alves was arrested yesterday morning, Friday, before appearing in court in preparation for his trial on charges of sexually assaulting a woman at a nightclub on December 30th.
The Brazilian admitted that he was in a nightclub on the day in question, but was not affected by the woman who filed a complaint against him.
Nightclub workers treated the attacked woman before taking her to hospital in an ambulance before she filed a complaint against the veteran Brazilian soccer player in early January.
