The Russian embassy in Khartoum is clearly unhappy with the position of the new US ambassador to the country, John Godfrey.
In a fiery comment on her official Facebook page yesterday, she called absurd the remarks made by Godfrey, who came to Khartoum last month, during an interview with a local newspaper about Russia’s so-called isolation.
“superficial knowledge”
He also felt that “the newly appointed American diplomat is compensating for his superficial knowledge of Sudan with suspicious sources.” In a scathing statement she posted on her page, she said: the language of threats and ultimatums regarding Khartoum’s sovereignty in its foreign policy.
She also described the man and his words as “far from diplomatic propriety”, adding that “his discussions about the current world order seem absurd, and the most ridiculous are his statements about the so-called isolation of Russia.”
“coming out of isolation”
This happened while commenting on an interview Godfrey gave to the Sudanese newspaper Al-Tayyar, in which he believed that “the progress in relations between Russia and Sudan has been motivated by the international isolation around Moscow, which is currently intensifying due to the unjustified invasion of Ukraine.” “, as he put it.
He also pointed out that “if the Sudanese government decides to proceed with the establishment of a Russian military facility or reconsider it, this will harm its interests and further isolate Khartoum at a time when most Sudanese want to get closer to the international community.”
It is noteworthy that in April last year, Khartoum froze an agreement with Moscow to establish a military base on the Red Sea after intense American pressure, and the place was evacuated from Russian equipment and soldiers.
While the chief of staff of the Sudanese army, Lieutenant General Muhammad Osman al-Hussein, explained that in principle there was no complete agreement with Russia on this base, which was decided to be created in 2017, during the era of deposed President Omar al-Hussein. -Bashir.
