President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reopened Istanbul’s famous Blue Mosque on Friday , first day of Muslim holiday of Ramadan Bayram, also Known as Eid al-Fitr, after restoration efforts began in 2018.
Erdogan described the opening ceremony of the mosque as “one of The most important symbols of Istanbul”.
Khairallah Jalbi, my regions manager of The Directorate General of Institutions told Anadolu Agency that the Directorate follows the principle of of Keeping mosques under restoration open for worship and visits.
Çelebi said that apart from a short five-month shutdown over the past Five years, the Blue Mosque remained in practical, though with Limited capacity.
The mosque named Sultanahmet Camii in Turkish, it was built By the Ottoman Sultan Ahmed I between 1609 and 1616 in the box bearing his name in Istanbul, the Ottoman capital. It is the only mosque in Türkiye with six minarets.
Europeans call It is the “Blue Mosque” because of its beautiful blue, green and white tiles.
