US officials reported that an explosion at an oil refinery in the US state of Louisiana caused a massive fire.
Officials said the explosion occurred at the Marathon Oil facility in Garriville just after nine on Monday morning, noting that no injuries were reported and the causes of the accident were being investigated.
The company said in a statement that “Marathon Petroleum is responding to the fire that broke out at the Garriville refinery in Louisiana at around 9:30 am local time” and “the impact of the fire on the facility is being evaluated.”
He stressed that there are currently no signs of injury.
The explosion occurred in an area that stretches for 130 miles along the Mississippi River, known as “Cancer Street,” where residents are at high risk of cancer due to high levels of toxic pollution.
