The fire broke out on Wednesday at an arms depot in a Russian village near the border with Ukraine, the region’s governor said.
“According to preliminary information, an ammunition depot caught fire near the village of Staraya Nelidovka,” Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov said on the Telegram app.
He added that the fire was brought under control and there were no casualties or damage to residential buildings.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The governors of neighboring Kursk and Voronezh regions, also close to the border with Ukraine, said the air defense was active at night.
“There are no casualties and no damage,” Governor of the Kursk Region Roman Starovit said on Telegram.
For his part, Voronsky District Governor Alexander Gusev said that the air defense “successfully destroyed” a small reconnaissance drone, the source of which he did not specify.
Russia has repeatedly accused Ukrainian forces of carrying out strikes on Russian territory.
On Monday, a fire broke out at a fuel depot in the Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine. In early April, the governor of the Belgorod region, adjacent to the Bryansk region, said that Ukrainian helicopters had infiltrated and bombed a fuel depot.
