The King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid today signed, via videoconference, in the presence of the Counselor to the Royal Court and the Center’s General Observer, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabiah, two joint cooperation agreements with the World Health Organization and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the amount of 10 million US dollars; Provide medical and housing assistance to refugees from Ukraine to neighboring countries, especially Poland.
The two agreements were signed by the Centre’s Assistant Inspector General for Operations and Programs, Engineer Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz and the World Health Organization, World Health Organization Regional Director for Europe Hans-Henri Kluge and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, High Commissioner’s Adviser and Representative Commissioner at the Gulf Cooperation Council by Mr. Khaled Khalifa at the center’s headquarters in Riyadh.
According to the first agreement with the World Health Organization, the provision of emergency medical assistance to refugees from Ukraine in neighboring countries will be supported in the amount of 5 million US dollars by providing and distributing essential items in accordance with needs assessments determined by the health authorities in the Republic of Poland and distributing them according to medical centers and institutions in the regions Presence of refugees, including medicines for the treatment of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, etc., medicines for the treatment of vaccine-preventable diseases, including measles and polio, distribution of medical supplies for the treatment of HIV and tuberculosis , and medical supplies To support the response to the pandemic (Covid-19) for the benefit of 1,000,000 people.
Under the second agreement with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the highest priority needs of refugees from Ukraine to neighboring countries will be met in the amount of US$5 million by providing various asylum materials for 75,000 refugees from Ukraine to Poland, including the provision of 100,000 blankets and 75,000 mattresses, 75,000 bedspreads, 75,000 stretch sheets and 50,000 sleeping bags.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabia explained that the signing of the two agreements is in pursuance of the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud – God bless him – to the King Salman Relief and Humanitarian Aid Centre. provide emergency medical and asylum assistance to refugees from Ukraine in neighboring countries, especially Poland, in coordination with the Polish government and UN organizations, emphasizing that this assistance reflects the leading role of the Kingdom in the field of relief and humanitarian action at the global level. , noting that the Kingdom throughout its long history has supported brotherly and friendly countries in times of crisis and adversity.
These two agreements are part of the humanitarian and relief projects implemented by the Kingdom through the King Salman Relief and Humanitarian Works Center around the world.
