Qatari football club Al Duhail have booked their place in the round of 16 of the 2022 AFC Champions League.
Al Duhail beat Al Taawon 4-3 in a match that brought the two teams together at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Buraydah as part of the fifth round of the AFC Champions League group stage.
Karim Boudiaf scored a goal for Al Duhail in the 11th minute, Al Taawun answered with Leander Tawamba’s equalizer in the 21st minute, then Hassan Al Omari added a second goal for Al Taawun in the 25th minute and Leander Tawamba scored the third goal in the 36th minute.
In the second half, Al-Duhail managed to turn the tide in his favor: after Edmilson Jr. scored a second goal for Al-Duhail in the 58th minute, then Edmilson scored a third goal from a penalty kick in the 84th minute, before Al- Moez Ali scored the fourth goal in the 88th minute of the match.
Al Duhail increased his lead to 12 points as they topped the fourth group in the AFC Champions League and advanced to the round of 16, while Al Taawun’s balance sheet froze at 7 points, finishing second in the group.
Iran’s Sepahan is third in Group D with 7 points, with a goal difference from the second-placed team, while Uzbekistan’s Pakhtakor is fourth with 3 points.
