The State of Qatar condemned in the strongest possible terms the burning of copies of the Holy Quran by extremists in Malmö, Sweden, noting that this heinous incident was an act of incitement and a dangerous provocation of the feelings of more than two billion Muslims in the world.
In a statement, the Qatari Foreign Ministry reaffirmed that the State of Qatar completely rejects all forms of hate speech based on belief, race or religion, warning that this populist inflammatory rhetoric has taken a dangerous turn due to ongoing institutional and systematic calls for a recurrence of attacks against Muslims in the world.
In this context, she called on the international community to assume its responsibility to reject hatred, discrimination, incitement and violence and to seek a radical solution to the conflicting relationship between freedom of religion or belief and freedom of opinion and expression through dialogue and common understanding, reiterating Qatar’s full support for the values of tolerance and coexistence, as well as its desire to establish the Principles of International Peace and Security.
