Today King Abdullah II of Jordan stressed the need for the Israeli occupying authorities to respect the historical and legal situation at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and stop all illegal and provocative measures that violate this situation and encourage further escalation.
The Jordanian monarch instructed the government, while presiding over a meeting via video link technology on the latest developments in Jerusalem, to continue its regional and international contacts and efforts to stop the escalation of Israeli steps and to formulate an urgent and influential international position to achieve this.
He emphasized that the maintenance of general tranquility requires Israel’s respect for the historical and legal situation at the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the creation of a real political horizon that respects all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people on the basis of the two-state solution, emphasizing that the defense of Jerusalem and its holy places will remain a Jordanian priority, and instructing the government to continue making all necessary efforts to preserve him, the existing historical and legal situation, and his Arab, Islamic and Christian identity.
