Today, the Jordanian government warned against the continuation by the Israeli occupying authorities of their steps aimed at changing the historical and legal situation in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and imposing a temporal and spatial division in it, and regarded this as a dangerous escalation and reprehensible violation of international law and held Israel responsible as to the occupying power.
Jordanian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Haytham Abu Al-Ful stressed that Israel bears full responsibility for the serious consequences of this escalation, which undermines all efforts being made to maintain global calm and prevent an escalation of violence that threatens security and peace.
Ambassador Abu Al-Ful stressed the need for the international community to take responsibility and take immediate action to pressure Israel to stop the practice, pointing out that the police and Israeli forces had once again stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque and expelled its believers by force and allowed its assault by extremists under their protection.
He added that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which has an area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims and that the Department of Endowments of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs in Jordan is the legal body, exclusive jurisdiction to manage all the affairs of the Haram and regulate entrance to it.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman dismissed Israeli claims that the Israeli police have the right to force visits to the Haram on non-Muslims, stressing that the organization of these visits is the exclusive right of the foundation’s administration in accordance with the existing historical situation.
Abu Al-Ful said that the Jordanian Foreign Ministry continues its intensive contact and acts at the regional and international levels to stop the escalation of Israeli moves and warn of their consequences, which undermine the general calm and push for more violence and tension.
