The Lord of the Rings: A Monument of Fantasy
The Lord of the Rings is a legendary work of fantasy that continues to captivate fans worldwide. The film adaptations by Peter Jackson serve as a heartfelt tribute to this iconic franchise. Despite being over 20 years old, the original trilogy remains a cinematic masterpiece that has made a lasting impact on the film industry. JRR Tolkien’s rich storytelling continues to be adapted and reimagined in various forms, including the recently broadcast series on Amazon Prime Video called The Rings of Power, which received mixed reviews from fans. The realm of video games also offers some excellent titles, although the most recent installment, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, unfortunately fell short of expectations.
Gatherings of Fans and the Kingdom of Rohan
In real life, fans from all corners of the globe often come together to celebrate The Lord of the Rings. In late September, a convention took place in Brittany, France, catering to fans of the franchise as well as enthusiasts of medieval aesthetics. Excitingly, another event is now on the horizon for the same region. This time, it is inspired by a city in Brittany that shares its name with a kingdom in Middle-earth: Rohan. This intriguing connection reveals the Bretons’ fondness for this iconic fantasy realm.
“And Rohan will answer!”
Brittany houses a commune with the exact same name as the kingdom in Middle-earth. Interestingly, there is a small Breton town called Rohan, boasting fewer than 2000 inhabitants. Leveraging this uncanny similarity, Rohan du Morbihan plans to bring Middle-earth closer to reality with a festival scheduled for 2024. This eagerly anticipated event will provide fans with the opportunity to immerse themselves in cultural activities inspired by the medieval universe of Tolkien. Attendees can look forward to a Hobbit-style dinner, musical shows, games for all ages, and even role-playing games to fully experience Tolkien’s universe. In homage to the renowned riders of Rohan, the festival may feature horses and equestrian activities.
To prepare for this grand event, the Terres du Rohan collective is extending an invitation to individuals, associations, and companies who are interested in participating. Rather than solely visiting the filming locations in New Zealand, this convention offers the unique chance to explore the lands associated with this legendary kingdom.
