The Joy of Making a Grocery List with Apple’s iOS 17
Creating and maintaining a grocery list may not be the most exciting task, but Apple’s new iOS 17 software has become more accessible and enjoyable. The new Reminders feature in iOS 17 allows you to create a dedicated grocery list that will make your shopping experience a breeze.
Create Your Grocery List in Reminders
Here is a simple step-by-step guide on how to create your grocery list in Reminders:
- Open the Reminders app.
- Tap on “Add List” in the bottom right corner.
- Select “Groceries” under List Type from the dropdown menu.
- Name your list and choose an icon symbol and color for it.
- Click “Done” in the upper right corner.
Once you have your list, you can easily add items by tapping “New Item” in the bottom left corner. The grocery list feature in Reminders automatically organizes your things into categories such as produce, dairy, and snacks, making it even more convenient for your shopping trip.
In my testing, the categorization of items by Reminders was correct 90% of the time. If an item is not recognized correctly, place the main food word at the beginning of the article or leave it uncategorized at the bottom of your list.
Customize and Share Your Grocery List
To share your grocery list with someone else, tap the share button (a box with an up arrow) in the upper right corner of the app. In Reminders, you can view your grocery list as a traditional list or in column format. To switch between these views, tap the three dots in the upper right corner and select your preferred mode.
If you want to sort your items manually, you can do so by tapping the “i” icon next to the article and selecting the desired section. You can also create new custom section headers or edit existing ones by tapping the text and making changes.
Additionally, you can collapse and expand each category section using the arrows next to the heading. If you wish to reorder sections, tap and drag them up or down the list. To explore various sorting options for your grocery list, tap the three dots in the upper right corner and open the dropdown menu under “Sort By.”
When you check off an item as completed, it will automatically disappear from the list. However, to view your finished items, click the three dots in the upper right corner and select “Show Completed.”
Like other reminders, you can also add notes, set priority levels, and add time/date stamps to each item on your grocery list. Tap on an object and click the “i” icon to access these options.
