Discovering the Power of Meditation: Lessons from a 30-Day Journey

In today’s fast-paced world, many of us find it challenging to stay present and focused. To address this, I embarked on a month-long meditation journey, meditating every day for at least five minutes. This experience opened my eyes to the amount of time we spend dwelling on the past or worrying about the future instead of embracing the present moment.

While meditation is not a new concept, there is a growing trend known as “monk mode” that involves mimicking the behaviors of monks. This includes reducing phone usage and setting aside dedicated time for meditation. The popularity of this trend is evident with over 70 million views on TikTok.
The Importance of Mindfulness
After the pandemic, people are increasingly recognizing the significance of their mental well-being. They desire moments of grounding and presence in their lives. Dominique Perkowski, a meditation coach, breathwork practitioner, and founder of The Shift, explains that individuals are seeking more control over their minds and attention. They want to focus on what truly matters to them amidst the constant demands of technology, social media, emails, and other distractions.

For my 30-day experiment, I committed to meditating for at least five minutes every day to observe any positive changes in my overall well-being.

1. Enhancing Morning Energy
Starting my day with meditation significantly improved my morning routine. By utilizing guided meditations on platforms like Spotify, I discovered newfound energy and motivation. These guided sessions incorporated breathwork and visualization techniques while sharing empowering mantras. This practice allowed me to feel more in control of my day and set a positive tone for what was to come.
2. Letting Go of Negative Thoughts
Meditation proved invaluable when it came to managing negative thoughts. Whenever memories from the past or anxious concerns about the future clouded my mind, I turned to meditation. Daily practice helped me embrace the act of surrendering to uncontrollable circumstances. One guided meditation, for instance, encouraged visualizing worries as clouds in the sky and using deep breathing to let them drift away. This technique enabled me to dismiss negative thoughts and create mental clarity.
3. Harnessing the Power of Positive Affirmations
Throughout my life, I had not given much thought to affirmations. However, during my meditation journey, I found myself drawn to sessions that incorporated positive affirmations. During emotionally challenging or busy days, hearing affirmations from these guided meditations helped me believe in my own strength and resilience. Starting the day with affirmations, as recommended by therapists, proved to be an effective way to boost my mood and set a positive tone for the day.
It’s time we view meditation as an essential part of our mental hygiene, similar to brushing our teeth. Just 10 to 15 minutes of daily practice can help us reconnect with ourselves and find inner peace in our fast-paced lives.
