The Upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel: Project Orion
The much-anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, currently codenamed Project Orion by developer CD Projekt RED, is currently in the conceptual design phase according to the developer.
What We Know So Far
During an investor presentation, Adam Badowski, Chief Creative Officer at CDPR, provided an update on the progress of the sequel. He revealed that the project is currently at the conceptual design level and will be led by a team of seasoned veterans who worked on fine-tuning Cyberpunk 2077 and designing Phantom Liberty. The team will operate out of locations in North America, specifically Vancouver and Boston. By late 2024, several dozen developers will join the project, with half of them based in the northern US and the other half in Poland.
Utilizing Epic Games’ Unreal Engine
Although the sequel has not been given an official title yet, it has been confirmed that CDPR will be utilizing Epic Games’ Unreal Engine technology. With this major undertaking, the studio is said to be hiring hundreds of developers to work on this exciting new game.
Recent Updates
Recently, CDPR released Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.00 as well as the expansion Phantom Liberty. These updates are reported to be among the “last big updates” for the original Cyberpunk 2077 game.
