A Valley of Disney-stamped News
Over the course of the past year, Disney Dreamlight Valley, the popular mobile game, has received a wealth of exciting new updates and features. From new outfits, valley decorations, and exclusive rewards, to recipes, players have had plenty to explore and enjoy. Many of these new features have been tied to specific seasons or holidays, which adds a dynamic element to the game. Additionally, the addition of trophies has been a minor but essential aspect for several players.
One of the most significant updates to the game has been the introduction of the Dreamsnaps challenge/competition, a community event that allows players to compete with each other and win exciting rewards. The game has also seen the addition of numerous beloved characters from Disney franchises, such as Vanellope von Schweetz from “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” and exciting new missions to complete. The sheer amount of new content can be overwhelming for players who have been absent from the game for several months.
Moreover, the latest patch introduced the biggest narrative update in the game thus far, which involves the storyline of “The Forgotten” and “The Forgotten King.” This narrative progression has been a welcome change for long-time players who have been eagerly waiting for the storyline to unfold. According to Gameloft’s roadmap, players can expect to see the conclusion of the storyline by the end of the year. This also means that fans can look forward to another big mystery to solve by 2024.
As for future updates, Disney Dreamlight Valley promises to introduce new characters, borders, a unique royal tool, and a multiplayer mode by the end of 2023. Despite the already impressive array of new features and the addition of two new kingdoms since early access, these exciting promises overshadow the relatively meager gains. However, this can likely be attributed to the fact that the first year of operation was primarily focused on stabilizing the gaming experience. Regardless, there is still plenty of content in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and players can look forward to even more exciting updates in the future.

A Wonderful Gameplay?
Disney Dreamlight Valley is a game that offers an incredible amount of content to players. However, a year ago, when we first reviewed the game, we were skeptical about its technical aspect and the lack of true gameplay diversity, which led us to award it a modest 14 out of 20. The good news is that numerous patches have been released to resolve the bugs that could completely hinder your progress. These patches have improved the game significantly by fixing major issues. However, as new content has been added, new bugs of a similar nature have emerged. Although they may be less obstructive, they can still be frustrating, and it is difficult to determine if all of them have been fixed to date. Additionally, we encountered some camera bugs and framerate drops that can affect the player’s experience.
Despite the bugs and technical issues, the game has made numerous improvements that make players’ lives easier. For example, the positions of wild plants are changed every morning, making them more accessible. Players can also pre-set outfits for quick changes according to their desires. However, these improvements are not significant enough to address the lack of diversified mechanics, such as mini-games for preparing Rémy’s delicious dishes, that we mourned the absence of a year ago. The game needs more diverse mechanics to offer players an engaging and interactive experience.
The economic system in the game is becoming more restrictive, which can be problematic for some players. Players with access to the game were given a considerable amount of Moonstones. However, for others, this currency can be purchased through the in-game store. Moonstones allow players to acquire unique decorations, unlock the Premium Season Pass, and unlock entire sets of missions. While not having access to cosmetic elements in this type of game can be frustrating, being denied access to part of the story is significantly more problematic. For example, to access the “Sunday Outfits” quest for free, players need to accumulate the equivalent of 20 euros in Moonstones, which translates to logging in and collecting rewards from blue chests every day for over a year (without considering potential bonus Moonstones). This can lead to resentment among players.
In conclusion, Disney Dreamlight Valley still has a long way to go to offer a truly solid gaming experience. Although the game has grown considerably in terms of content, it still lacks diversified mechanics that would make the game more engaging and interactive. If you want to avoid being overwhelmed by missions, now may be the time to dive in. However, if you’re not interested in spending long hours collecting and making special deliveries, it might be best to wait until next year. This year was focused on new content and improvements, and the upcoming anniversary will be an opportunity to evaluate the execution of the late 2023 roadmap. It is this execution that will truly determine the future of the game and sway you to either embrace it or wait for the release of the free version of Disney Dreamlight Valley. Currently, you need to spend at least €29.99 to play the game through the Founder’s Pack.
