When Jay Oliva Shares:
Warner Bros. missed a big opportunity when it comes to the DC Universe in movies. In comparison to the tremendous success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that has dominated cinemas for the past decade (though it has recently hit a rough patch), the DC Universe feels like an industrial disaster. This is why James Gunn and Peter Safran made the most of the recent movie, The Flash, and its concept of a multiverse. They used it as a fresh start for new projects and new characters.
Before Andrés Muschietti was chosen as the director, it was Rick Famuyiwa who was supposed to take on the project. Famuyiwa had teamed up with Jay Oliva, a well-known storyboarder who had already worked on major projects like Man of Steel or Batman v Superman.
Originally, Jay Oliva was working on what was envisioned for The Flash, and it turned out to be very different from what we know now.
Planned Flash and Justice League Trilogies:
The most significant revelation made by Jay Oliva was that Zack Snyder had planned not only a Flash trilogy but also another Justice League trilogy.
As we know, Warner Bros. and DC Comics significantly altered Snyder’s plans, and the final version of Justice League was completely different from the Snyder Cut released years later.
The original idea was for the legendary Darkseid to be defeated in a world where superheroes lived in harmony, and then Professor Zoom would become the ultimate antagonist of the DC Universe. Flash would confront him and utilize his powers to distort space-time, ultimately leading to a reboot of the entire universe.
It’s important to note that the current DC Universe still has Aquaman 2 coming at the end of this year. After that, Peter Safran and James Gunn will unveil their new projects. One of the most anticipated projects is definitely Superman Legacy, where David Corenswet will take over the role of Superman from Henry Cavill.
In their respective universes, it’s also worth mentioning the development of Joker Folies à Deux with Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, as well as The Batman 2, continuing the story with Robert Pattinson.
