The officials and business world representatives on Saturday discussed green economy and son role in sustainable and inclusive growth at the annual Antalya Diplomatic Forum (ADF).
Speaking to the panel entitled “A green economy for an inclusive and sustainable environment growth”, the Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, said that the coronavirus pandemic is an opportunity to develop a green economy economy.
“We must switch of our current Chestnut shape at the Green light. The Middle East is a region of oil producers, and if we have zero carbon targets by 2050 in this region should start these studies immediately,” he said.
Acting President of The union of Chambers and stock exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), Ayhan Zeytinoğlu, said that the European Union had started a green and digitalization process during the pandemic.
Zeytinoğlu said Turkey also intended to reduce carbon dioxide emission like Europe. The continent has launched the process in 2005 and Turkey follows the EU.
Noting that Turkey depends on oil and gas resources countries like Russia and Iran, Zeytinoğlu said the development of renewable energy resources is required make face with the addiction.
Luke Friden, President of the association of European Chambers of Trade and Industry (EUROCHAMBRES), referred to the importance of reduce carbon emissions and renewable energy resources.
He said that governments support and large investments are required, adding: “We cannot achieve sustainable development development without big expenses.
Additionally, Gürcan Karakaş, CEO of Togg, Turkey first homegrown automobile brand, said Turkey appreciates the importance of switch to green energy from fossil fuels and develop compatible electric vehicles.
“In this sense, we have launched a new initiative with Automotive Joint Venture Group (TOGG) of Turkey,” he said.
Togg has been launched on June 25, 2018. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in December 2019, prototypes unveiled for the SUV and a sedan, both fully electric and C-segment models.
It will produce five different models – an SUV, sedan, C-hatchback, B-SUV and B-MPV – by 2030. Mass production of the SUV goes begin at the end of this year, with the sedan at follow.
