The US State Department has announced the possibility of Washington considering easing sanctions on Venezuela if negotiations between Venezuelan authorities and the opposition progress.
“We have confirmed that we will reconsider some aspects of our sanctions policy if there is tangible progress in negotiations towards realizing the true aspirations of the Venezuelan people,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said at a news conference on Friday.
The White House confirmed that a US delegation visited Caracas recently, where they discussed the “energy security” file and other issues.
This comes amid high oil prices in light of geopolitical tensions due to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine and Western sanctions against Moscow.
