Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery – The Best Netflix Movie Series
Fans of the Knives Out franchise are eagerly anticipating the release of the third installment following the success of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which premiered in theaters and on Netflix in December 2022. In this regard, we have compiled all the current information available about Knives Out 3 and will continue to update our readers as more details become available from Rian Johnson and the production team.
Is Knives Out 3 happening?
Knives Out 3 is currently in development, and although there are still unconfirmed details, the good news is that the film is confirmed to be in the works. Netflix has acquired the rights for two movies at a cost of $400 million, allowing director Rian Johnson to progress with the production of Knives Out 3.
Has Netflix announced the Knives Out 3 release date yet?
At present, Netflix has not yet revealed the official release date for Knives Out 3, which is not surprising given that it usually takes at least a couple of years or more for sequels of Netflix movies to be released. Glass Onion, for instance, was released in late 2022, and we have seen only a few Netflix sequels so far, with most of them having an average of three years between releases. Extraction, for instance, premiered in 2020, while the second movie was released in 2023, so it is reasonable to expect a similar timeline for Knives Out 3.
As of July 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) is currently on strike, along with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), which means that Johnson is likely not working on the script, and the casting is not yet happening. However, once the strikes come to an end, we can expect to learn more about the new movie project. At the moment, there is still no information about the script or cast, leaving fans eagerly waiting for updates on the progress of the film.
Based on current information, we can anticipate the release of Knives Out 3 sometime in 2025, although there is a possibility that it could come out in 2024. However, since we are already over halfway through the year, and there is no news yet on production or casting, it is more likely that the release date will be in the following year. If production commences later this year or early next year, there is a chance that the movie could be released by December 2024, but this is purely a speculative assumption.
We will update our release prediction accordingly as soon as we receive more information about the movie. In the meantime, fans will have to exercise patience while they wait for more news about Knives Out 3.
Who’s in the Knives Out 3 cast?
The sole confirmed cast member for Knives Out 3 is Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, as we’ve seen in the previous two films. It’s highly likely that no other common cast members will appear unless Johnson decides to cast others who have been in the franchise before.
Will Janelle Monáe and Madelyn Cline be in Knives Out 3?
In the Knives Out franchise, Andi and Helen Brand, played by Janelle Monáe, and Whiskey, played by Madelyn Cline, are two beloved characters that fans are eager to see return in the upcoming Knives Out 3. So far, there has been no confirmation of their involvement in the project. In an interview with ET Canada, Monáe expressed her willingness to participate in the film, but did not anticipate a request from director Rian Johnson.
“I would be honoured. But Rian is not going to cast you if you’ve already done ‘Knives Out’ with the exception of Daniel Craig, because he has to be the detective Benoit Blanc that comes in.”
Jessica Henwick and Cline expressed interest in being part of Knives Out 3. Fans may also want to see familiar faces like Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, and Jamie Lee Curtis, although it’s likely that new cast members will be introduced.
Rian Johnson is writing and directing Knives Out 3
Johnson announced in January 2023 that he had started working on the script for Knives Out 3. He also mentioned that it would be very different from Glass Onion, which had premiered on Netflix a few weeks prior to his interview.
“I’m starting to work on the third movie now, and that’s also what’s got me creatively jazzed: I don’t have to replicate the last movie at all. The goal is to strike out in a completely new direction tonally and thematically.”
We are excited to see what Johnson has in store for Knives Out 3, as he will be directing the movie.
How to watch the Knives Out movies
Knives Out is not currently available on any major subscription streaming service, including Netflix. However, it can be watched on TNT and TBS with YouTube TV or other Pay-TV services or cable/satellite. On the other hand, Glass Onion is a Netflix original movie and can be exclusively streamed on Netflix. When Knives Out 3 is released, it will likely have a brief theatrical release before becoming available to stream on Netflix worldwide. We will keep you updated on Netflix’s distribution plans.
How many Knives Out movies are there?
Currently, there are only two Knives Out movies. However, a third one is in the works and is expected to release by July 2023. Details regarding the cast and storyline are yet to be revealed.
Has Netflix ordered Knives Out 4?
Netflix has not yet commissioned a fourth Knives Out movie, but director Rian Johnson and actor Daniel Craig have expressed interest in making more films featuring detective Benoit Blanc.
Here’s what Johnson said:
“Daniel and I have talked a lot about that, how the instant we feel like we’re turning the crank on another one of these, we have to stop. So, it’s very important with each one now, and the third one especially, that it feels kind of scary and dangerous. You have to shake the box.”
And here’s what Craig said:
“Down the line, yes, of course. I mean, if people are interested, then we’ll make them. But if there ever came a point where either Rian and I thought we were just churning them out, I think we would back away. I mean, I just don’t think that’s what either of us want to do in life. Unless people are getting genuine fun out of them, forget it.”
