YouTube Testing “Stable Volume” Feature to Control Sound Levels
YouTube is currently testing a new feature called “Stable volume” that aims to provide users with a more consistent sound experience while watching videos. The setting was discovered by a Reddit user and has since been confirmed by YouTube.
The purpose of the “Stable volume” feature is to even out the volume across different YouTube videos, as some may be louder than others. This demand for sound leveling is not unique to YouTube, as other media providers have offered similar features on devices like smart TVs, sound systems, and media players.
Although YouTube did not officially announce the launch of the Stable Volume feature, some users have reported seeing it in their app. YouTuber M. Brandon Lee from the “This is Tech Today” channel speculated that the feature could be a normalizer and compressor that evens out the volume between videos and parts of a video itself.
YouTube confirmed that the guesses made by the creator are accurate but noted that the feature is still in the testing phase.
“We are currently testing a new YouTube listening control feature that enables a more consistent sound for users when watching videos,” said a YouTube spokesperson. “The experiment is global and across mobile devices,” they added.
If you have access to the Stable Volume feature, you can find it in the video settings page within the YouTube app.
