A Brand New Reporting Feature for In-Game Voice Chats Will Soon be Available on Xbox
Players on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One can record 60-second snippets, listen to them, and then report any inappropriate voice conduct they hear in any multiplayer game featuring in-game voice chat.
Testing the Security Feature
Beginning this week, the security feature will be made accessible to Xbox Insiders for testing before ultimately being made available to the general public.
“When we looked at the next important step in our safety innovation, our team targeted in-game chat because it is often where players have the highest opportunity to interact with players outside of their friend network,” said Dave McCarthy, corporate vice president of Xbox player services. “When we looked at the next important step in our safety innovation, our team targeted in-game chat because it is often where players have the highest opportunity to interact with other players.”
Quick and Easy Reporting
McCarthy explained, “Reactive voice reporting on Xbox is designed to be quick and easy to use, and it has been designed to have a minimal impact on gameplay.” The function was developed so that gamers could take screenshots fast, go back to the game they were playing, and finish the report when the game was over.
Players are the only ones who can view the recorded clips until they are submitted. “Xbox is not saving or uploading any voice clips without you, the player, choosing to start the reporting process,” stated McCarthy.
Automatic Removal of Clips
Clips are kept on the players’ consoles for twenty-four online hours before being automatically removed if a report has not been filed on them. Players who report issues will receive feedback from Xbox regarding whether or not the company took action in response to their concerns.
The Impact of Toxic Gaming Communities
The nonprofit organization Takes Care released research on mental health only last week. According to the findings of this study, seven out of ten players have reported avoiding playing specific games due to the community’s reputation.
Dr. Rachel Kowert, the director of research at Take This, observed that toxic gaming communities are detrimental to the health of the community and its financial standing.
