Get your basketball shoes and shoulder pads ready, because there will be a second season of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Max Borenstein (The Terror) and Jim Hecht (Ice Age: The Meltdown) made the show directed by Adam McKay and didn’t start airing until March 20, 2022. When the much-anticipated show finally came out, fans of the 1980s Lakers were surprised by how many characters broke the fourth wall and spoke directly to the audience.
Season 1 Overview
The first season of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty had ten episodes that showed how Jerry Buss (John C. Reilly) became the team’s owner, how Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) became one of the team’s biggest stars, and how the Los Angeles Lakers became one of the biggest names in sports in the 1980s. The first season of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty was a huge hit for HBO and the streaming service Max, which has since changed its name. It got good numbers and reviews. Still, some people didn’t like how HBO told the real-life story. Two famous people in the show, NBA stars Magic Johnson and Jerry West, spoke out against how they were portrayed and said that the show, which was supposed to be a biopic, was mostly made up. Even though it’s common for biopics to romanticize and change historical events to make the story more interesting, Season 1 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty changes enough that it might bother some people.
