Egyptian Court Upholds Removal of Mortada Mansour as President of Zamalek Club
On Sunday, an Egyptian court ruled to uphold the ruling of the Administrative Court to remove Mortada Mansour from the post of president of the Zamalek club, putting an end to a weeks-long dispute over his continuation as president of the famous club.
Administrative Court Decision
The Administrative Court ruled 3 months ago to order the Minister of Youth and Sports to announce the termination of Mortada Mansour’s status as president of the Zamalek club. This ruling effectively means his removal from the position of president, which he won in the elections held in 2022.
Furthermore, an administrative court decision was made to strip Mansour of his status amidst his conviction in a final judgment of the Court of Cassation on February 25 last year. He was imprisoned for a month after being found guilty of insulting and slandering the president of the Al-Ahly club, Mahmud Al-Khatib. This decision prompted calls for an election during the club’s first general meeting to fill the vacant position.
Zamalek Board Reacts
The Zamalek board of directors anticipated this decision by announcing Mansour’s election as head of a number of the club’s executive bodies. However, it remains unclear whether he will run for the white giant’s presidency again. Mansour first assumed the presidency of Zamalek in 2005 and has won the position several times since. However, he has faced legal challenges that have led to the dissolution of his board of directors on multiple occasions, most recently in 2020.
