The UN Human Rights Council has announced that it will hold an emergency meeting on July 11 regarding the repeated desecration and burning of a copy of the Holy Quran in a number of European and other countries. Ambassador Khalil Hashemi, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations in Geneva, said that holding this discussion is an opportunity to demonstrate the unity of the Council and mutual respect between its parties. He called on countries to support the results of the discussion, which sets the course to combat acts of hatred, discrimination, violence, hostility, and incitement to them.
