NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg May Extend Term
Bloomberg reported that the current Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, may extend his term until a decision is made on who will replace him in this post.
No Agreement on Successor
The agency noted, “It has become clear to the United States and other allies that there is no agreement on who should be the next Secretary General.”
Confidence in Successor
As previously stated by Stoltenberg, he was confident that his successor in office, whom the alliance would choose, would be worthy of the position.
Term Ending Soon
And current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s term ends at the end of September, and he is likely to remain in office for several more months before the Allies agree to appoint a new Secretary General.
Extension for Choosing Candidate
According to the agency, the extension of the Secretary General’s term of office will give the allies the opportunity to choose a new candidate for this position.
New Candidate Considered
Earlier, Politico reported that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is seriously considering the candidacy of a new NATO Secretary General.
British Defense Secretary Not Leaving Post
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace also hinted that he would not leave the post of Secretary General of the Alliance.
