Mike Pence Announces 2024 Presidential Bid
Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence has announced that he will run for the Republican nomination in the 2024 presidential election, paving the way for a possible confrontation with former President Donald Trump. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
Pence at Odds with Trump
The move puts Pence at odds with Trump, who refused to support him when the former president tried to annul the results of the 2020 election won by Democrat Joe Biden. Observers believe that the former Indiana governor is increasingly distancing himself from Trump, saying that the ex-president’s support for the rioters who attacked the Capitol building on January 6, 2021 endangered himself and his family members, since they were inside the building at that time.
Joining the Race
With the nomination, Pence joins a growing group of contenders for the Republican nomination, including Trump, Senator Tim Scott and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley.
