Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told The Washington Post that the U.S. government did not inform him that the high-profile intelligence was published online: “I did not receive information from the White House or the Pentagon in advance, and we did not I personally did not know this information,” he said in an interview published on Tuesday. It’s definitely a bad story.”
A bunch of classified Pentagon documents have been circulating online for weeks after they were posted to a chat group on the Discord app.
The documents contain information, including about the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine, as well as details about alleged US spying operations against partners.
The US media were the first to report the leak in early April.
Zelenskiy said the leak was “not good” for Kyiv, adding: “It’s bad for the reputation of the White House, and I think it’s bad for the reputation of the United States.”
The Washington Post, citing leaked documents and sources, said Washington expressed hope for the success of Kyiv’s expected spring counter-offensive to retake the Russian-controlled territory of the conflict.
The United States is Kyiv’s most important ally in the war against Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion more than a year ago and is providing billions of dollars of military aid.
