As a result of a reporter, Rye Myers, posting a video of their conversation on the social media platform TikTok, Tony Danza is facing backlash for his actions during a red-carpet interview.
Myers inquires about the well-being of Tony Danza and Jamie deRoy, the Broadway producer, in the video captured on the opening night of “New York, New York” on Broadway. While deRoy claims that she is “excited,” Danza has a different interpretation of the conversation.
Danza advises the reporter, “Just loosen up a little bit.” “You guys are more enthusiastic than we are. Relax and take things easy.
@rye_myers As a red carpet reporter, I’m here to help bring excitement to your event and promote it! I LOVE chatting with Broadway and Entertainment’s best as “Your Broadway & Entertainment BFF!” I understand not everyone is in the mood to answer questions, and you can always pass. I asked these same questions (and a few others!) to heavy hitters like #JoelGray #linmanuelmiranda and others, and only #TonyDanza replied like this…. To say I was blown away, shocked, and embarrassed is an understatement…But, my professionalism showed through! 😉 #tonydanza #wtfmoments #celebrityencounters #rude #nypost #pagesix #tmznews #whostheboss #redcarpet #redcarpetreporter #shockingmoments #rudecelebrities #slapintheface #celebritynews
After that, after one more question, the interview abruptly stops after Myers asks Danza and deRoy which is their “favorite New York City staple food item”: pizza or hot dogs.
In response, the actor from “Taxi” gives Myers a peck on the cheek and tells him, “You know what you’ve got to do, buddy. You’ve got to come up with better questions.”
On Saturday, the video got more than 115,000 views, and it looks like Danza is the one who shoos deRoy away from the scene by saying, “Come on, let’s leave. I’ve had to go.”
Myers emphasized his dismay at Danza’s behavior in the title of his TikTok video. He stated, in part, “To say I was blown away, surprised, and ashamed is an understatement…However, my professionalism was displayed!”
The request for a statement from Insider has yet to be met with a response from Myers or representatives for Danza.
Almost immediately, a few readers are ready to correct the star of “Who’s the Boss?” and defend Myers’ position. Others took particular offense to Danza touching Myer’s face, with one person claiming that doing so would have prompted “a fit of rage.”
The famous singer Michael Bublé praised Ry, saying, “I believe you’re fantastic. I’ll eat a pizza with ya.”
In the comment section, Myers stated that given the show’s nature, “everyone was asking ‘New York City’ themed questions.” He said this to defend the interview questions that he had asked.
Danza is not the first celebrity to find himself in trouble due to an embarrassing conversation on the red carpet.
After an awkward interview with model Ashley Graham at the Oscars in March, Hugh Grant gained widespread Internet attention.
