With over 300 millions monthly active users, Twitter is one of the most popular social networks in the world. In theory, this allows you to exchange short messages called tweets, follow the news, get information, discuss and have fun. But for months (years?) Twitter was first and foremost the theater of everything, and worse things can be found on the internet (censorship, moderation issues, ads, algorithms, trolls, fake news, etc.), especially since Elon Musk took over the network. The end of free certification comes to the finish line of the last defenders of the network social. But where to migrate to regain the strengths of the network social, minus disadvantages? We’ve done some digging and tested several alternatives to Twitter that offer different but equally enjoyable experiences. Here are 5 that we really liked.
mastodon

Fediverse is a set of independent servers that can communicate with each other using the ActivityPub protocol. Each server, called an instance, has its own rules, its own theme, and its own community. Users can choose the instance that suits them best or create their own. They can also follow and interact with users from other instances. Posts on Mastodon are called pouets (or toots in English) and can contain up to 500 characters, images, videos, or polls. Mastodon is a free and open source platform that is company agnostic and does not host ads. However, the network is more difficult to account for main and has some limitations.
