Malaysia has confirmed that it will not impose any unilateral sanctions on Russia and will leave any such decision to the United Nations.
Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said that Malaysia, as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, has called for a ceasefire and negotiations are continuing.
If there is a need for sanctions, we will do it, but it has not reached that stage yet, if necessary, the United Nations will also do it,” he said.
Malaysian MP Wong Chen asked the size of the sanctions that Malaysia is ready to impose on Russia in the Parliament.
However, Saifuddin also warned that “If the sanctions are not targeted and properly implemented, they will affect the general public who are innocent.”
