Today, Thursday, the Uzbek city of Samarkand will host a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Iran, China and Pakistan’s Regional Quartet on Afghanistan.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement today, Thursday, that Afghanistan’s neighbors (Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) will take part in the meeting, and the Russian delegation will be headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
At this meeting, it is planned to discuss the positions of the participating countries on the situation in Afghanistan, taking into account the growth of terrorist activity in this country.
According to the statement, special attention will be paid to security issues, countering the threats of the spread of terrorism and drug trafficking from the territory of Afghanistan.
The agenda is to continue the process of reconciliation among Afghans through the formation of an inclusive government that reflects the concerns of the main ethno-political forces in the country, as well as human rights issues.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity to discuss the coordination of efforts to improve the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and restore the Afghan economy, including through the activation of regional infrastructure projects.
