Spanish Economy Minister Nadia Calvino said yesterday that Europe cannot ignore the role of China, which is a major trading partner for it and an important geopolitical player that can help end the conflict in Ukraine. Calvino said during her speech at the Atlantic Council: “I think that we can’t do it. We have turned our backs on China and are trying to ignore it as it is a big player and we have common interests with it, because with constructive interaction we will end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible and avoid fragmentation of the global market, which will be a loss for everyone.”
Nadia Calvino is a Spanish economist and civil servant who has served as First Deputy Prime Minister of Spain since July 2021 and Minister of Economy since 2018 under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and in 2020 the name of her ministry was changed to Minister of Economy and Digital transformations.
