The E3 2023 convention has been terminated officially. A new report from IGN has confirmed that the event was canceled. A few days later, additional companies withdrew their support for the show.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) was scheduled at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 13-16. ReedPop organized the first in-person E3 event since 2019, which was held in 2019.
According to IGN, the team members were informed of the news on Thursday by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) through an internal email. The reason given in the email was that the show “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”
After the cancellation news became public, the ESA stated it.
ReedPop Global VP of Gaming Kyle Marsden-Kish stated that “this was a difficult decision because of all the effort our partners and we put toward making this event happen,” but that “we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3.” “We appreciate that interested companies would not have playable demos ready and that resource limitations prevented them from attending E3 this summer. We also understand that this was an obstacle they could not overcome. We are sorry to say that we will not be able to put on the showcase that you so richly deserve and that you have come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences. Those of you who have already committed to attending E3 2023.”
a source had told him that a statement regarding E3 2023 would most likely be released by the end of the week. IGN has obtained a copy of an internal announcement so that a public announcement may be made at any time.
Before the decision to postpone the event was made, many publishers and studios announced that they would not be participating, including the following:
- Sony
- Microsoft
- Nintendo
- Sega
- Ubisoft
- Tencent
- Devolver Digital
