The US House of Representatives is considering the possibility of drafting a bill banning the importation of oil and energy resources from Russia to the USA against the background of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, said, “The House of Representatives is currently working on (possibly proposing) strict laws that would further isolate Russia from the global economy. Our design would ban Russia’s oil and energy imports to the US.”
Pelosi added that Congress plans to discuss the “cancellation” of normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus as a first step towards blocking Russia’s access to the World Trade Organization.
Congress also wants to give the Biden administration the right to raise tariffs on imports from Russia.
