In the city of Chania, on the Greek island of Crete, a demonstration was held to protest against the arrival of the US aircraft carrier George Bush and the unacceptable behavior of the US military.
The Chania Peace Committee organized a protest near City Hall condemning the “unacceptable bandit behavior of American and NATO sailors” by the crew of the aircraft carrier.
The demonstrators carried banners reading “NATO out of the Mediterranean”, “close base in court” and “no involvement in US and NATO plans”.
The head of the peace committee, Manolis Papadomanoulakis, urged municipal authorities to take action to respond to the actions of drunk American soldiers.
He pointed out that only a day after the American aircraft carrier docked, various incidents were recorded in the city due to the actions of the American military.
“The people of Chania … will once again prove that Americans are not welcome in our country. The people of Chania want the port of Souda to be a port for the peoples, not a base for the imperialists,” he said.
