The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced the displacement of 300,000 people in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo last February due to violent clashes between armed groups and government forces. Kitchanga towards the strategically important city of Saki, where about fifty thousand people were displaced in one week, highlighting that UNHCR is currently mapping the displacement and needs of the displaced.
He added that UNHCR is calling on donors to raise $232.6 million to help internally displaced persons and refugees in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), calling on all actors in the eastern part of the DRC to stop the violence that has taken a heavy toll on the civilian population and led to the largest internal displacement crisis in Africa, displacing 5 people, 8 million people from the east of the country.
