Several of Meta’s virtual reality headset prices are decreasing, but one keeps the same. Price reductions are available for the more recent Meta Quest Pro VR headset and the 256 GB Meta Quest 2.
According to a blog post from Meta, the 256 GB Meta Quest 2 is going on sale from $499.99 to $429.99. The lower-capacity 128 GB Meta Quest 2, currently listed at $399.99, won’t see a price reduction like that.
The Meta Quest Pro is reduced even further, from $1,499.99 to $999.99. The modifications will take effect for both the US and Canada on March 5.
According to Meta, the company’s objective “has always been to produce technology that is accessible for as many people to take benefit of all that VR has to offer.” Although the 128 GB won’t change, the business claims that the 256 GB and Quest Pro will become more widely available due to the cheaper costs.
Last year, the business raised the cost of the 128 GB and 256 GB editions of the Meta Quest 2 headsets by $100. The Quest 2 was a reliable entry point into virtual reality when it was released in 2020, thanks to its wireless format, internal hardware, and price point.
However, that was altered by the price change. The 256 GB model’s reduction in price may not alter that, particularly for PlayStation 5 customers who now have a brand-new headset option in a comparable price range.
The price reduction on the Meta Quest Pro headset surprises me. A $500 price reduction on a headgear that just made its debut feels significant. Granted, not all of the headset’s reviews were positive. With such a high price tag, there might still be some hesitation to invest in the more recent Meta headsets.
