Greek media reported that 6 people were killed and dozens injured in a passenger train derailment near the city of Larisa in central Greece.
About 30 ambulances arrived at the scene of the accident, which occurred shortly before midnight on Tuesday, in addition to fire and rescue services, according to ERT1 TV channel.
The search for survivors continues as several people are still trapped due to the capsizing of several compartments.
The government instructed hospitals in neighboring towns to prepare to receive the wounded. Health Minister Thanos Pleuris arrived at the scene.
A passenger train between Athens and Thessaloniki derailed after colliding with a freight train, causing several compartments to overturn and start a fire.
