In the midst of an arrest campaign involving politicians, activists and influencers, Tunisian police arrested prominent dissident Ghazi Chahuachi late Friday night. This comes amid a massive arrest campaign this month that has hurt more than 12 people, including opposition politicians, activists , organizers of the protests, the director of Mosaique Radio, in addition to the man, prominent figures and two judges.
And the NGO Amnesty International previously dismissed the arrest campaign as “a deliberate attempt to stifle opposition, especially criticism of the president” and called on the Tunisian president to “stop this politically motivated campaign.”
Ghazi Chaouashi was born on February 5, 1963 in the city of Bardo. A Tunisian lawyer and politician. In the legislative elections of 2014 he was elected to the Assembly of People’s Representatives. He was a co-founder and member of the Politburo and Secretary General of the Democratic Current from March 2016 to April 2019, and in 2020 he became Minister of State Property and Land Affairs.
