A rumor that Xbox, Sony, and Nintendo wouldn’t be attending E3 2023 surfaced over a month ago. Nintendo has now formally announced that it will not be attending E3 2023. Since then, it has been confirmed that Xbox will have its LA-based event instead.
There are growing worries that E3 has passed the point of no return and that it is no longer unquestionably the largest gaming expo in the world. Many exhibitors at the convention, including Konami, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros., but attendees will feel their absence from the event.
Where is the Commitment?
Nintendo provided IGN with a confirmation and said that “few publishers (are) prepared to commit to attendance completely.”
We wrote a piece speculating why Nintendo will completely forgo attending E3 based on the speculations IGN reported last month regarding Xbox, Sony, and Nintendo not attending.
The Japanese gaming juggernaut’s final justification was, however, clearer:
We evaluate each event’s participation carefully and always think of new methods to interact with our supporters. We have chosen not to participate in this year’s E3 event because it didn’t work with our plans. But, we have always supported the ESA and E3 enthusiastically and will continue to do so.
It was once believed that Nintendo would skip E3 because there weren’t enough important titles to promote there. Nintendo is now believed to announce any upcoming news via a Nintendo Direct event, including releasing a new Nintendo Switch console.
The dates for E3 2023 are June 13–June 16, and you can count on us to provide in-depth coverage of any announcements made during the event.
