For his part, Grandi reaffirmed the Muslim World League’s support for UNHCR’s efforts to help refugees, as well as the various initiatives it has introduced to meet their needs in host communities, noting the importance of a long-term and close partnership that brings the two parties together, which has had a wide positive impact on the relief and protection of refugees and displaced persons.
The meeting was followed by a wide discussion. Strengthen joint cooperation mechanisms between the League and UNHCR to mobilize global support for refugees and displaced persons, and to raise awareness among human societies of the suffering they live in and of what it is a human and moral duty to accept and support them them in these difficult circumstances.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the fatwa issued by the Islamic Academy of Fiqh, affiliated to the World Muslim League, which authorizes the payment of zakat to refugees through UNHCR, as well as the importance of this innovative way of supporting the lives of millions of refugees. and displaced people around the world.
