The Apple Watch has been designated as the official wearable by the World Surf League (WSL). It will be utilized as official competition equipment in sports for the first time.
WSL competitors will utilize the WSL Surfer app on the Apple Watch Series 8 and the Apple Watch Ultra to get updates while surfing in the competition during the 2023 Championship Tour. The app is made to sync in real-time with the WSL Scoring System, providing competitors with crucial information on scores, wave priority, and remaining heat duration.
Before each heat, each contestant will receive an Apple Watch, which already has the WSL app installed. Surfers on the Championship Tour evaluated the app for the previous two tours to ensure it suited their demands. According to Eric Jue, Director of Apple Watch Product Marketing, Apple is “thrilled” that WSL is adopting the Apple Watch.
Apple’s Director of Apple Watch Product Marketing, Eric Jue, stated, “We’re happy the WSL is using Apple Watch for the Championship Tour, making it simple and straightforward for surfers to swiftly glance at their wrist for rapid access to crucial information.” The new WSL Surfer app will give surfers competing at the highest level the information they need while in the water thanks to this creative solution, which makes use of many of the advanced features of Apple Watch, including its bright, high-resolution display, water resistance, cellular connectivity, durability, and a powerful platform for organizations to build custom apps.
Ten competitions are scheduled on the 2023 Championship Tour across seven nations. Beginning in January, it will feature the Billabong Pro Pipeline. Events from the tour will be televised on the WSL website, YouTube channel, and app. The WSL Championship Tour’s surfing documentary “Make or Break” for Apple TV+ is scheduled to return on February 17, 2023.
